TIME TO LOOK BEYOND PARTY POLITICS FOR THE GOOD OF EDO PEOPLE – SENATOR ORDIA
Senator (Engr.) Clifford Ordia, the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Works has expressed optimism that work on the Ekpoma -Ewu Road would soon commence if the appropriated monies allocated are released by the relevant Federal Government Agency.
Explaining the importance of this road to Newsmen recently, the Senator emphasized that the Lokoja-Okene-Ekpoma-Benin alignment being a major economic route and gateway to three Geopolitical zones (the South-South, the South-East, and the South-West) from the Nation’s Capital, Abuja, must be treated with all the urgency it deserves by the Federal Government, ensuring that the road is motorable, due to its current condition as a journey that ordinarily should take approximately four (4) hours to complete, now lasts more than Twelve (12) hours, underscoring the terrible state on that alignment.
In his explanation, the Senator said when the deteriorating state of the road was initially noticed, he moved a Motion on the floor of the National Assembly drawing Federal Government’s attention to the near collapse of the road.
The Senate then mandated its Committee on Works to visit the site which they did twice at different times before the recent one that happened few weeks ago. After the inspection exercise one of the recommendations to the Senate, the need for the Federal Government to start serious work on that road was again stressed, though the contractor was asked to mobilize to the Ekpoma axis of the road in order to commerce remedial work as a direct response to that motion.
Till date, work is yet to commence apparently due to the rains, and particularly, poor funding of that specific alignment.
While Speaking about his efforts in ensuring that the Ekpoma-Ewu road is fixed, Senator Ordia said he is doing his best to add value as far as road construction in his senatorial district is concerned.
“For me, all the roads that were awarded by the previous administration including this one have provisions in the 2017 budget, and I’m very much sure that once the Federal Government starts releasing funds under the 2017 appropriation, of course that alignment would benefit from it. But let me say here that the entire Ekpoma road structure has been completely damaged and the Federal Government needs to carry out remedial works as soon as possible”.
The Senator, commended the State Governor for the role he is currently playing. He then called on all other sons of Edo State, that are in the Federal Executive Council, as well as the APC National Chairman, Chief Odijie Oyegun, to ensure they prevail on the relevant agencies to release monies for work to commence immediately.
”I will not hesitate to always do my part; I will not rest until I see work commence fully on that road”, the Senator promised.
