Agbonifo Reacts To The Illegal Suspension Of Justice Onnoghen
“When tyranny & oppression come to the land, it will be in the guise of fighting crime”. James Madison (U.S President 1809-1817)
President Muhammadu Buhari has been using the fight against corruption as a smokescreen to foist his selfish and ethnocentric interest on Nigerians. He has been utilising that anti-corruption tool to manoeuvre the people running after his perceived enemies, not minding if it crumbles the institutions of the state.
Let it be on record that the removal of Justice Walter S. Onnoghen from being the Chief Justice of Nigeria is simply a show of tyranny.
It is another justification to the saying that old habits never die. General Muhammadu Buhari, Rtd, has once again shown the whole world that he is only interested in the Fulani emirate.
This is why he has steadily and continuously utilised every available opportunity to place men and women from his ethnic group in charge of sensitive institutions of the state.
When Adeosun was forced to leave office, a Fulani was made to replace her. When Babachir Lawal was removed, his cousin was used to replace him, but if anyone from the south has reasons to be removed, a Fulani is quickly scouted for a replacement.
As much as the allegation levelled against Justice Walter Onnoghen is weighty, two wrongs cannot make a right. The suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigerian is unconstitutional, undemocratic and autocratic.
It is an affront on the separation of powers as enshrined in our constitution. Let those close to the President sound it in his ears that his dictatorial antics will be resisted at all levels.
Our nascent democracy shall be defended at all cost.
