Hon. Ambrose Osawe: A Leading Leader Has Departed – Agbonifo Eghosa
I had to make several calls in disbelief, when I heard the passing away of Hon. Ambrose Osawe – a renowned Journalist & Historian, and a former member representing Oredo Federal Constituency (then made up of present day Oredo, Egor, and Ikpoba-Okha) at the House of Representatives in the third republic that was toppled by the military junta.
Hon. Osawe’s is not someone I knew from a distance, he was a father, a role model, and a mentor. My being a member of the famous and prestigious Benin Club is not unconnected to how much I adored his leadership life style and pattern. His service to society is goes beyond his literary class, as reflected in the various roles he played while with us.
He was Editor of the Observer Newspaper, Former President of the prestigious Benin Club at the age of 40, and taught History at Eghosa Anglican Grammar School in the 70s.
I, on behalf of my family, members of my generation in Benin Club, and all Oredo constituents, pray that his family, friends and associates find comfort at this trying time in the beautiful life he lived and the good legacies he left us with.
Hon. Eghosa Asemota Agbonifo is the
PDP Candidate running for Edo State House of Assembly, Oredo West Constituency.
