Traditional Ruler Donates New Toyota Hilux Jeep, Other Security Gadgets To The Police
A traditional ruler in Enugu State, Igwe Maduabuchukwu Nevobasi has donated a brand new Toyota Hilux jeep worth over N10 million to the Enugu State Police Command’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
Igwe Nevobasi, who is the traditional ruler of Mmaku Community in Awgu Local Government Area, on June 15 this year also donated two brand Toyota Hiace buses to the command to aid logistics and deployment of officers and men.
Receiving the Hilux jeep on Monday at the command, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris thanked the traditional ruler for his gesture of love and concern for the security of the state.
Idris noted that the gesture of the royal father was worth of emulation by all Nigerians especially the wealthy.
“We are very appreciative of your support to police in crime-fight in the country.
“With the support of personalities like you, police will be able to function better and ensure that no criminal have his or her way in the country.
“The Nigeria Police Force also encourages other public spirited individuals and philanthropists to contribute their quota to keep the country and Enugu State continuously secured,” Idris, who was represented by Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammed Danmallam, said.
He noted that the gesture was part of the community policing strategy of the Nigeria Police Force, which aimed at drawing the people closer to their police in order to have a win-win situation in security and crime-fighting issues.
He, however, assured the traditional ruler that the Hilux jeep would be put to utmost use and be protected jealously.
Earlier, the traditional ruler, Nevobasi, said that he made the various donations to help the police keep the good work going as well as support the organisation to achieve its mandate of protecting lives and property.
The traditional ruler also noted that since the posting of Danmallam to Enugu State, the state had continued to witness reduction in crime and enduring peace.
“It is good and it gives me pleasure to identify with a hard working commissioner and command; the peace and tranquility in the state now is unprecedented in its history.
“One thing you do for a performer is to encourage him to do more. This Hilux jeep and other vehicles donated earlier is to encourage the Nigeria Police Force, commissioner and his command to do more for our people,” he said.
The traditional ruler, however, challenged other traditional rulers and wealthy individuals in the state to see a way they could assist the police to function better for the good of the society.
“I am not the wealthiest in the state among traditional rulers; but I felt the police must be supported for the good of all,” he added.
