HON. DUBEM ONYIA TO HIGH CHIEF DOKPESI …”YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BECOME PDP NATIONAL CHAIRMAN”
By Augustine Okezie A.
Still on consultations in the aspiration to become the PDP National Chairman, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi visited the former minister for foreign affairs Hon. Dubem Onyia at his Abuja residence.
During the visit, High Chief Dokpesi informed the former Minister that his consultation wouldn’t be complete if the Honourable Minister wasn’t part of the list of elders he needed to be honoured as founding fathers of the party.
“You have seen the PDP from when it struggled in the early years, the expectations, the high hopes, the efforts to retrench democracy, the impunity that set in there after” High Chief Dokpesi said.
He went on to say that even when they tried as much as possible to address this challenges, all efforts were lost and the only thing that can be done to restore PDP is to have a democratically elected NWC.
He also spoke on the role of the founding fathers of the party, stating that they play a very strong role in making the party what it is supposed to be and that they should not be neglected for any reason.
“With respect to the founding fathers, the party need a chairman who must be courageous enough, to fight impunity, one who must be a bridge builder, one who must be strong enough to ensure that an end is put to imposition, one who must be courageous enough to ensure that the youth and women are reunited in large numbers into the party and into certain positions of the party” he also stated.
He said that there should be a level playing ground for everybody who wants to contest in any position in the party, and not the idea of Godfather’s imposing candidates, and that we should learn to believe in Justice, Fairness and Equity.
Responding, the former Minister Hon. Dubem Onyia welcomed him again and commended his strength and courage, and for taking time to visit other elders of the party.
He gave a brief narrative of how the party was formed and how Nigeria as a whole had so much faith in the party.
He said Nigeria needs PDP to be the party for the people again, and to achieve this, the party needs a chairman who can bring party members who have fled back to the party.
Nigeria needs a party with transparency and a party willing to provide an enabling environment and policies that would create jobs for the youths.
He supported the movement of the High Chief Dokpesi’s campaign group by saying “you cannot convert the converted, I am quite sure you have what it takes to become chairman of this great party.
Its time for you to ensure that you bring our people back to the Party and I will pray that GOD gives you the strength and courage to handle this task”.
