Breaking News: Traders in Benin Shut Down Businesses Over Outrageous Taxes.
A drive round Benin this morning reveals that all major business outlets within Benin metropolis closed up in protest to what they described as extortion by Government.
It was gathered that the local government authority said it was a directive from the Edo State Government and the Edo State House of Assembly, however as at filing this report it is yet to be confirmed if these assertions were true.
Business owners like Uyi technical was also seen complying with the traders directive of the “Operation Shut Down”, as it was also gathered that Uyi technical was giving a local government levy as high as N1 Million while shops as small as 4×5 feet were asked to pay as much as N20K and a standard store N50K to N70K.
Traders at Mission road, Lagos street, Akpakpava, Forestry, Nevis, New Lagos, Airport roads were all seen to have complied as traders were already getting set to embark on a protest march to the Edo House of Assembly, Oba Palace and Edo State Government House to register their displeasure over this ugly development.
