The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abia State has extended the continuous voters registration and announced that the second phase would commence July 31, 2017 to encourage an effective participation of citizens.

While briefing newsmen in Umuahia, the resident electoral commissioner, Dr. Iloh Joseph said that the first phase which ended on July 20, recorded some progress as well as challenges hinting that the commission registered a total of 27,285 voters and a total of 17,141 uncollected PVCs (Permanent Voters Card) were also distributed.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the alarming CVR apathy in the state and disclosed that there are still 151,575 uncollected PVC stating that the extension of the exercise is among the innovations of the electoral umpire, aimed at maximum sensitization and participation of all and sundry to ensure the critical index that offers the legal and political right for people to choose their leaders is adequately optimized.
