Flood: Edo Assembly Adopts Resolution on Victims Welfare and Safety
Edo State House of Assembly has adopted a resolution calling on the relevant agencies of government to rise up to the task of providing long lasting solution to the perennial flooding in Osomhegbe, Udaba, Ofukpo and Agbabu Communities in Ekperi Clan, Etsako Central Local Government Area.
The resolution which flows from the matter of urgent public importance moved by Hon. Lawani Damian, representing Estako Central Constituency who moved a consequential motion calling on the relevant agencies to find a lasting solution to the perennial flooding of some communities in his constituency during the week.
The house also resolved that effort towards completing the flood displaced victims camp at Ekperi be intensified by the relevant body to enable victims of future flooding access to temporary accommodation.
It was also resolved that the Edo State board for the management of such emergencies be strengthened and upgraded to the status of an Agency to make it more functional and to enable it speedily discharge its duties whenever the need arose.
Members gave their overwhelming support calling on relevant agencies to adopt proactive measures to finding a lasting solution to the perennial issue.
They called on the relevant agencies to send relief materials in order to alleviate the sufferings of the people as a result of the damage done by severe flooding to farmlands, livestock and houses.
The Speaker Hon. Justin Okonoboh, directed that copies of the resolution be made available to relevant authorities.
